THE GOAL
Build a playable game with no engine and no built-in input handling to lean on. Everything from pixel rendering to collision detection had to be written from scratch, as a team, in raw MIPS assembly.
- Pixel-based graphics rendered directly to the MARS bitmap display
- Collision detection and a three-life system built without any engine
- Background animation, music, and sound effects, all hand-written in assembly
- Built with a team on the MARS4_5 simulator
Submarine Game — MARS4_5 gameplay
HOW IT WORKS
The game draws pixel-based graphics directly to the MARS bitmap display, detects collisions between the submarine and the sharks in software, and tracks a three-life system with a menu and background animation, all hand-written in assembly, music and sound effects included. Players dodge sharks underwater using just the W and S keys, with three lives before it's game over.
